Throttle Punks Power Kit FAQ - How to Turn Your Stock Bike into a Live Beast

What is the Throttle Punks Power Kit? A kit that squeezes more power out of your bike - stronger pull, sharper throttle response, simply more life. Think of it as a fun performance “doping” that finally lets the engine breathe and work, instead of just surviving on factory settings. We’ve been developing Power Kits since 2022, right here at Throttle Punks | CFMOTO Prague, Czech Republic.

What it does to your bike:
• snappier throttle response
• stronger pull from low RPM
• increased horsepower and torque
• more aggressive sound + higher fun factor
• basically: no more strangled factory setup

Power Kit is the name of our first performance project for the CFMOTO 800MT. Since then, we use Power Kit as the signature name for all our performance kits - only the bikes change.

WARNING – beware of fakes (!). This is an original Throttle Punks™ product. Any unauthorized copying, resale or reproduction of our designs will be handled legally. Protect your bike from fakes - many of them were never tested properly and can cause nasty problems for your machine.

What’s inside the Power Kit? Usually 2–3 components:

1. Sport Intake System

2. ECU Remap

3. Homologated Exhaust (optional - by itself doesn’t dramatically increase power)

Benefits of each part of the Power Kit

1. Sport Intake System

Optimized airflow that lets more air into the engine with less turbulence and resistance.

The system includes a triple-layer foam filter that handles dust, sand, mud and all the ugly stuff you throw at it. It filters finer particles than stock paper or cotton filters and survives brutal conditions. Easy to wash, re-oil and reuse - cheaper in long term. In extreme riding (motocross etc.) riders often replace/clean it after every race.

2. ECU Remap

More air is nice but the engine must know what to do with it. The ECU (Electronic Control Unit) is the brain - controls fuel injection, ignition, mixture, emissions, throttle response… everything. A remap unlocks efficiency and lets the engine run like it should.

3. Homologated Exhaust

Smooths out the power curve across RPM, removes those annoying dips you complain about (yes, we hear you). Better flow, nicer pull, happier throttle hand.

FAQ – Most Common Questions About the Intake System

Can I buy only the Sport Intake?

Yes. You won’t unlock full Power Kit potential, but the improvement over stock is noticeable. Installation is highly recommended after the first 1,000 km.

How do I order a Power Kit or individual parts?

Simple - pick what you want. If you want maximum performance, get the full Power Kit designed for your bike (with the correct homologation). If you want to take it step by step, buy separately what fits your plan.

What if my bike already has a different exhaust?

If it's homologated, the ECU can handle it. Cheap unapproved “loud pipes” can kill performance or even the engine, your choice, cowboy.

Will I lose my warranty if I install the Power Kit?

In the Czech Republic, we take over the engine warranty — but the bike must be serviced with us. In other countries, local CFMOTO dealers may refuse warranty claims, so we strongly recommend consulting the installation and warranty conditions with your CFMOTO dealer beforehand. We cannot take responsibility for self-installation or work done by an inexperienced mechanic. Regular warranty services must be completed, and the foam filter must be checked and maintained properly.

What if I removed the catalytic converter?

When you gut the cat on a modern bike… sure, it breathes better and sounds meaner. But the electronics will start complaining, because the ECU expects the catalyst to be there. And what actually happens? In reality it just gets louder (better exhaust flow), but the bike can lose power overall — you may feel power fluctuations, the mixture can run too lean or too rich, detonation may occur, overheating, diagnostic errors, lambda sensor faults, etc.

This mod requires a custom-tuned ECU map. Our maps are developed specifically for our Sport Intake System, and that’s exactly what you get when ordering one. If the map doesn’t behave as expected on your bike, in 99% of cases it’s due to the removed catalytic converter.

What if my bike has other modifications?

The same rules apply as above. If you’re running a different performance air filter and want a new map — it will work, but our ECU map is developed primarily for our own sport foam filter, where you can expect 100% of the intended power curve and performance. We do not create custom fuel maps on request - for that, we would need your bike physically in our place.

FAQ - Most Common Questions About the ECU mapping

I don’t want the intake system - is ECU Map alone enough?

Yes, and you’ll still be 100% happy. Even with only the new ECU map the bike rides noticeably smoother and more fun. You won’t get the full potential of the complete Power Kit, but it’s absolutely worth it. Recommended installation: after at least 1,000 km of riding.

I ordered the ECU Map - where should I send my ECU?

Once your order is submitted and paid, you will receive an email from us with all further instructions - including packaging recommendations and advice to insure the shipment in case of loss or damage (we are not responsible for the courier you choose to send it with).

How do I remove the ECU from the bike?

The ECU location differs by model - sometimes it’s above the tank, sometimes under the battery. If you’re unsure, contact us and we’ll point you in the right direction. In any case, always disconnect the battery first (!).

Do I have to send you the ECU? Can’t it be done online?

Unfortunately, the ECU must be sent to us or delivered in person. To flash a map online you’d need the proper hardware and connectors — and even then, a power or connection drop could corrupt the ECU completely. For that reason we don’t offer remote flashing; we want to keep the risk as close to zero as possible.

If I send you the ECU, how long until I get it back?

It depends on when you send it and from which country it’s coming. For personal drop-off, we recommend scheduling a visit by phone so our technician can reserve time specifically for you.

What if someone already modified my ECU in the past?

In that case, we cannot reflash the ECU and we will return it to you in its current state. You/we need a control unit with the original stock map, otherwise the ECU could be permanently damaged.

Can the original ECU map be restored?

Yes, the original ECU map can be flashed back.

I’m not from Europe and I want an ECU remap, why can’t I order it?

Motorcycles outside the EU often run on different fuel, meet different emission standards, and have different ECU settings. The map we tune here in Europe cannot be guaranteed to work correctly in your region - the bike could run poorly, throw errors, or even damage the engine. For that reason, ECU tuning is available only for bikes operating within the EU, where we have verified conditions and data.

FAQ – Most Common Questions About the Foam Air Filter

Can I use a different foam filter in the sport intake system?

Each of our sport foam filters is made specifically to fit its matching intake system and another brand may not fit correctly. Using a different filter may lead to improper function of the intake system or reduced performance.

How often should I clean or replace the foam filter?

There’s no universal interval — everyone rides differently and in different conditions. As a general recommendation, check the foam filter every 1,000 km, and in extreme conditions even daily. A detailed guide on foam filter care can be found HERE.

How do I know when the foam filter needs cleaning or replacing?

A quick visual check is enough. If you notice heavy dirt build-up or the filter looks dry (losing its blue oily surface), it’s time to re-oil it. A dry filter doesn’t feel sticky to the touch. You may also feel reduced engine pull, that means the clogged filter is restricting airflow.

Which oil do you recommend for foam filters?

There are many foam filter oils on the market, but we’ve had the best results with Bel-Ray - thick enough not to drip, yet easy to apply.
Note: oil made for K&N and other cotton filters is not suitable for foam filters.

Where can I get spare foam filters?

If you don’t want to mess with cleaning and oiling, you can order pre-oiled replacement filters directly from us. They’re ready to use straight away.
